BokTown and BokTV

15/10/2009

BokTown is an experiential marketing activity that was created by the Treble Group as early as 2003 and has been amplified and extended over the years.

Following a successful launch of the Springbok Supporters Club village at Menlyn Shopping Centre, Pretoria in 2003, the concept was taken overseas to Perth and Sydney for the Rugby World Cup that year, giving supporters a “home away from home’ and expats a base to join together, celebrate and show their support for their team. At the same time, Treble brought key sponsors on board so that fans could interact with their brands and sponsors could retail their products directly to loyal supporters.

Subsequently, Treble created a successful BokTown base for supporters at the 2007 Rugby World Cup and, in a similar vein, a village was created at venues across the country for local supporters to watch matches on the big screen and ultimately join together to celebrate the Springboks victory in the Final against England. Even the most important spectator of all, Nelson Mandela, joined the fans at Boktown to watch the Springboks being crowned World Champs.

In 2009 the Treble Group used their extensive broadcasting expertise to launch BokTV in conjunction with SuperSport and SAB. Three episodes of this dynamic programme that brings the Springboks closer to their fans have been broadcast. As a first ever in South Africa, Treble brought the team closer to the fans at home and at the match by screening BokTV at BokTown directly after the Vodacom Tri-Nations Australia Test at Newlands, with the triumphant Bokke celebrating their victory with their ardent supporters.
